Environmental protection

To limit its impact on our planet, Groupe SEB incorporates respect for the environment throughout its product lifecycles. Through our eco-design approach, we improve product recyclability, reduce energy consumption, develop our use of recycled materials etc. As far as production is concerned, 78% of the Group’s entities are ISO 14001 certified. Our most recent acquisitions are in the process of being certified. An eco-logistics project to reduce C02 emissions related to transport has been launched and the Group is involved in collecting and treating products that have reached the end of their lifecycle.

  • New products are more than 70% recyclable;
  • 78% of factories and logistics entities are ISO 14001 certified;
  • 265,000 tons of CO2 on average for the transport carbon footprint (305,000 tons in 2009).

The Group designs products that are more energy-efficient, such as the Acticook pressure cooker and Eco Intelligence vacuum cleaners (energy saving of about 30%), and more environmentally-friendly, or even products that have been made from recycled materials (Enjoy spatulas and Natura cookware range).

Furthermore, in 2010 the Group tested with a major client the launch of Cross-Europe common range in small electrical appliances.
This significantly simplifies product and logistics flow management and results in economic savings for both parties and a reduction in CO2 emissions related to transport.

 Steam ironing systems using less energy

Jacqueline Foucard, International product Manager, Linen care.

"Studies carried out in 2010 found that energy-saving is an important criterion of choice for today's consumers when they buy a steam ironing system. This is an area in which Groupe SEB makes regular progress: by the end of 2011, Rowenta's Eco-intelligence range will see the launch of a steam system that uses 30% less energy for equal performance.
The energy saving is made possible by a new soleplate design which concentrates more of the steam onto the fabric being ironed, so avoiding steam wastage. We are also working to increase the product recyclability rate by looking at alternatives to materials such as thermo-hard plastics used for iron rests and heat shields, which cannot be recycled."

Acticook

 Acticook : concentrated innovation

This new pressure cooker, which is replacing the Clipso line-up, features three eco-innovations and six exclusive patents.

1 - The Eco Energy System reduces cooking time by evacuating up to 85% of the air (which spreads heat poorly).

2 - The Eco Dose allows the consumer to use the exact amount of water needed for each preparation to avoid wastefulness and reduce cooking time.

3 - The Eco Timer uses super-accurate electronics to signal the best time to reduce the heat source.

Acticook is a simple formula:
Eco Energy System + Eco Dose + Eco Timer = 35% time savings and 20% energy savings (compared with the traditional pressure cooker).

Acticook also has a totally redesigned opening/closing system that is even easier and safer to use
