Clear rules for a lasting relationship

Groupe SEB expects its relationships with its suppliers to be based on transparency, especially when it comes to their production costs. The goal is to optimise cost price, but this requirement also has benefits for suppliers because it prompts them to improve their own cost prices. With 2,404 industrial suppliers worldwide, Groupe SEB has a huge responsibility to see to it that its components are manufactured in ethical conditions.

Meeting social and environmental requirements

When suppliers fill out an eco-declaration, they pledge to limit the use of harmful substances listed by Groupe SEB and to comply with the RoHS directive. In 2006, 100% of our suppliers who make parts for products sold in Europe had signed the eco-declaration.

The Groupe carries out a survey of its suppliers’ environmental certification (ISO 14001) and takes that guideline into account in the selection process. Groupe SEB also wants its suppliers to comply with local labour laws. Since 2002, it has gradually been circulating a social declaration like SA 8000, one of the international standards in this area, and asking them to fill it in. Inspections by independent experts, matched with reinforced plans are implemented in the future.

A buyer’s ethics code

Several years ago, the Groupe wrote an ethics code focusing on four main areas:

      - observing the law in all countries and actions to verify that suppliers do the same;

      - refusing all financial compensation, gifts and advantages;

      - keeping information that is not indispensable for trade confidential;

      - applying buying methods that stimulate genuine competition between sound suppliers.

The panel of Groupe SEB’s main suppliers receives, through the purchasing directive, specific sustainable development goals. The directive explains our membership in the Global Compact and the ensuing obligations that they must meet.
