| For Groupe SEB, protecting the environment is not limited to production sites, although all of them are involved in an environmental certification process, or to transport. It is part of every stage in a product’s life, including end-of-life processing. |
Repairing products instead of throwing them away
Repairing a product generates less waste than throwing it out and buying a new one. That’s why the Groupe makes sure its products, in particular high-end appliances, are repairable. That means being able to easily take the appliance apart and find spare parts for it. Over 70% of all the products designed in 2007 are repairable. The instructions leaflets include a list of Groupe SEB authorised customer service centres. |

The days of tossing old household appliances in the family dustbin are over! A change in attitude is necessary today. Recycling items that are irreparable or have reached the end of their useful lives is our priority. We have already surpassed our goals, which are patterned on the WEEE directive of 13 August 2005 (50% recyclable and 20% or more re-usable), since in 2007, the potential recyclability rate (in mass) of our new products is superior to 70% (in arithmetic average).

Collecting for better processing |
A recyclable product is good, but a recycled product is better! In France, Groupe SEB played a key part in creating Eco-Systems, a government-approved body that has been collecting and processing the overwhelming majority of this kind of waste since 2006.
Financing for existing products is provided by a transparent consumer contribution towards the initial price of products sold, until 2011 within the framework of the WEEE directive.
In the other European countries, Groupe SEB also subscribes to these bodies and contributes to their implementation. |
