Securely networked: Professional coffee machines from WMF and Schaerer awarded 'Protected Privacy IOT Product’ certification
Our professional coffee machines from WMF and Schaerer have been certified by TÜV Rheinland as 'Protected Privacy IOT Product'. This certificate confirms compliance with current data protection and information security requirements in the communication between the coffee machine and the digital platform.
Digitalisation and networking have long since found their way into the field of professional coffee machines. Usage data is generated with every cup of coffee that is prepared: What is the filling level of the bean container? How many hot drinks were produced today? And which drink is ordered most often? All of this data is of commercial importance, because it allows conclusions to be drawn about the wear and tear or the utilisation of the machine. In this way, the data can be used to optimise processes and costs as well as to increase sales.
In order to collect and use this data, some of our professional coffee machines are telemetry-enabled. This means that the coffee machine is connected to the Internet via a mobile radio module and sends usage data to the WMF CoffeeConnect or Schaerer Coffee Link digital platform via this connection. This communication between the coffee machine and the digital platform must be encrypted and must comply with the guidelines on the protection of personal data.
The topics of data protection and information security are becoming increasingly important and are also moving more and more into the focus of the public eye. At WMF and Schaerer we take these issues very seriously. All generated and used data is encrypted according to current security standards. That's why we decided to have our telemetry-enabled coffee machines certified. We place the highest demands on the data security of our professional coffee machines. With the successful certification of our professional coffee machines as 'Protected Privacy IOT Product', we are a pioneer in this field and the first manufacturer of professional coffee machines to receive this certificate.
